Committed to educating the public and our members about the place quilts hold in our lives, hearts, and history.
Vulture Peak Patchers
Redeemer Lutheran Church
The Vulture Peak Patchers began with 8 quilters in 1997. Since that time we have grown to around 60 members from Congress, North Ranch, Wickenburg, Morristown, New River and the surrounding areas.
Our mission is to provide quilting education in a relaxed and fun social environment. This is achieved through guest speakers, traveling teachers and our own members. We also strive to provide as many items as possible to the charities we sponsor.
Due to the many ‘snowbirds’ in our quilting community, our regular meetings are October through May. We meet the first and third Thursday of the month and if there is a fifth Thursday, we dedicate that meeting for sewing comfort/charity quilts. The first meeting of the month is a business meeting, with a social time and a time to share our personal creations. The second meeting usually has a very short business meeting followed by a guest speaker, traveling teacher, or a demonstration by a member. Then the meeting is turned into a ‘sewcial’ where members can sew through the afternoon.
Informal meetings are held June-September at North Ranch (an RV park towards Congress).
The Vulture Peak Patchers enjoy an annual Christmas Party, a member’s birthday celebration, a summer shop hop, and a quilt show every other year. The next VPP quilt show is January 2020.
A vital part of our organization is work we do for our charities. We donate items to the Linus Project, The Wickenburg Senior Center, The Veterans Hospital in Prescott, The Wickenburg Life Center, the fire and police departments in Wickenburg and Congress. Occasionally, a local organization will request a quilt to be used as a fundraiser. This past year, 2018-19, we donated over 450 items to these various organizations in way of quilts, knitted items, pillow cases, wheelchair quilts, burp pads and receiving blankets.
Our dues are $35 as required to join the AQG. At each meeting we ask for a donation of $1 to help cover building rental costs. In order to raise funds to be used by our members for prizes, food, cards, etc. we have a monthly drawing of an item created by one of our members. We sell these tickets for 50 cents each or 3 for $1. It is a very popular drawing!
The Chapter structure consists of The Chapter Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Program, Comfort Quilts, Membership and a Quilt Show Chair.
