Chapter:

Quilters Anonymous

Christ Community United Methodist Church

Avondale, Arizona

Quilters Anonymous (QA) averages between 90 – 100 members. The chapter was created in the fall of 2002.

Meetings are held monthly on the first Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm at Christ Community United Methodist Church at 104 W. Western Ave., Avondale, AZ 85323.

Highlights of each meeting are reports by committee chairs, notice of upcoming quilt shows statewide, birthday recognition, show and tell. Programs are inspiring. Speakers are chapter members as well as invited guests, e.g. Gina Perkes from Payson, AZ, Ms. Wilson from Quilts of Valor, the Lumberyard Ladies from Yuma, AZ, Andi Stanfield of True Blue Quilts, Martha Sievetz-Beltram, award winner, and Sally Gilbert, doll-maker.

A party is held in July as the new board takes office and in December with a festive gathering and refreshments. We hold two open sew days each month on the second Tuesday and third Thursday. We also host several classes throughout the year, typically on Saturdays.

We are proud of our philanthropy. We have held a Kids’ Camp for the past several years. This is a minimal cost, supplies provided, week-long event for children ages 12-16. It is so successful that kids want to return. We choose charity projects each year. Currently, we are donating to Quilts for Kids and Quilts of Valor. In the past we have made walker bags, pillowcases, placemats for Meals on Wheels and lap quilts for senior living.

A huge annual event is Camp Intervention in April. This is a Friday to Sunday camp filled with games, prizes, quilting, and friendship. Camp is held at the Hilton Inn nearby with meals provided and rooms for those who wish to stay on the premises.

Our chapter structure includes President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership, Hospitality, Technology, Community, Program, Publicity, Kids Camp, Camp Intervention and Sew Day. We do not have a website. Our Facebook group is open to members only.
