Chapter:

Delightful Quilters

St. Patrick Catholic Church

Scottsdale, AZ

The Delightful Quilters are a group of 100+ ladies who meet monthly to celebrate the art of quilting and share the friendships our craft has created. Our members are of many ages and backgrounds and skill levels but we all love making quilts. This group began meeting in the spring of 2001 at the Quilters Delight quilt shop in Scottsdale, AZ. When the shop closed, we moved our meetings to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Community Church, 10815 N 84th Street (1 block N of Shea), Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Our meetings always have a bit of business and a lot of fun. If we don’t have a program planned or a speaker scheduled, we might be having a sewing day for one of the many charities we support or we might be enjoying a class offered by a recognized teacher or one of our members who love to teach. We enjoy coffee and “crumbs” (morning sweets brought by our members) before our meetings and take advantage of catching up with other members. When our winter visitors start arriving back in the valley, there are many stories to tell and quilts to share. We love our “show and share” sessions at the end of our meetings. Our beginner quilters are just as excited about sharing as our more seasoned quilters.

Some of our group activities include mystery quilts, group challenges, blocks-of-the-month, and a fat quarter of the month give away. Our group is led by a planning team consisting of 9 members. The team handles all the administrative and planning activities involved with keeping our group active and vibrant. There are no elected officers but there are plenty of chances to volunteer to help the planning team with various projects and duties. Some of the charities we support are Devereux Behavioral Health Services (we make Christmas stockings for them), Honor Health Thompson Peak (quilts for patients spending Christmas in the hospital), Habitat for Humanity (quilts for the beds of the newly built homes), Phoenix Advocacy Center (quilts of all sizes), a community of group foster homes for girls in foster care (they get quilts at Christmas), Helen’s Hope Chest in Mesa AZ ( a United Way agency), and our knit wits make knitted and crocheted hats for newborns at the Honor Health Shea hospital. Our members also donate quilts to Quilt for a Cause for fundraising.

Twice a year we have potluck luncheons In November we celebrate Thanksgiving and in April we celebrate the birthday of our group’s formation. Delightful Quilters are big supporters of AQG activities, attending the semi-annual membership meetings, volunteering at the quilt show as well as entering group displays and individual quilts into the annual AQG quilt show. Several of our members, over the years, have served on the AQG Board of Directors. Some other members have been inducted into the Arizona Quilters’ Hall of Fame.

We meet the last Thursday of the month at St. Patrick’s Community Catholic Church, 10815 N 84th Street (1 block N of Shea), Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Our meeting runs from 10am until 12:30pm. Most ladies come a bit early to have time to visit with the other quilters. A change in date or location does happen on occasion. Inquiries about our group can be sent to info@delightfulquilters.org.
