Arizona Quilters Guild
Committed to educating the public and our members about the place quilts hold in our lives, hearts, and history.
Sunrise Stitchers has been an AQG chapter for over 35 years. Our mission is to promote the appreciation of the art of quilting, contribute to the knowledge of quilting and quilting techniques through education, and to give back to our community by donating quilts and other items to local charitable organizations.
Our chapter normally meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM at the Paradise Valley Community Center. However, during the COVID virus period we have been holding our meetings via ZOOM. Our 40 members include snowbirds and people of all ages from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, and Carefree. We are a very friendly group and welcome new members enthusiastically.
If you enjoy a combination of education and fun, you will love our meetings. Each month we have a special program that runs about an hour. Some examples are: A trunk show, the disappearing nine-patch technique, a speaker explaining how quilts are judged, an EQ8 demo, a project “how to” etc. In addition we do quilt challenges, we present a Block of the Month and raffle off the blocks the following month, we show videos on quilting, we share quilting tips, and we end our meeting with Show and Tell. The highlight of the year is our annual Christmas Party. Besides holding a fabric sale with donated fabric as a chapter fund raiser, we play several party games, and we enjoy the delicious pot luck dishes we have all brought. Our Christmas Party is always the best attended meeting of the year.
Several times a year we hold an all-day sew-in to make charity quilts using our well-stocked charity fabric stash. During the past year we completed and donated 44 quilts to Arizona Blankets 4 Kids, 14 quilts to the veterans at Hospice of the Valley, and 90 pillowcases to Ryan’s Case for Smiles.
Sunrise Stitchers is run by a leadership team consisting of 6 people. Our dues are $15 a year payable by July 1st.
