Chapter:

Calico Cut-Ups

The Mission of Calico Cut-Ups is to promote the appreciation, enjoyment, and knowledge of quilting as an art form and a craft to its membership and to the general public. The Club provides opportunities to broaden quilting skills through educational programs, meetings and workshops and encourages quilting for the benefit of charitable causes. The CCU roster averages about 30 members coming from the surrounding communities. Members share their talents informally as well as formally through scheduled classes that range from short demonstrations to multi-week courses.

A dozen founding members, who named their group of quilting friends, Calico Cut-Ups (CCU), became a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) in October 1989.  We are a member of the Arizona Quilters Guild and we are made up of many talented, wonderful women.  If you check out our website at http://www.calicocut-ups.org/ you can see on our Photos page, we love to quilt and share our knowledge and favorite tips with others.  We are a warm, friendly group and many lasting friendships have been made!

Our meetings are the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Mondays of each month located at Pueblo El Mirage 11201 N El Mirage Rd., Bldg 3, El Mirage, AZ  85335.  The doors open at 9:30 and the meetings begin at 10 a.m. and end at approximately 2:30 p.m. The meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month is our business meeting. This meeting consists of new business, chair reports, show and tell and UFO’s (unfinished objects). After the business meeting, there is open sew and a class might be offered. The second meeting of the month, on the 4th Monday, consists of show and tell, UFO’s and announcements. Again, following the meeting, there is open sew time and you may also join a class being offered or an opportunity to work on a community service project. These can be reviewed on our Service page. We keep the website up to date as it contains information on all upcoming events. Coffee, tea, and water are available at both meetings, so bring a lunch and join us for the day!

Calico Cut-Ups members support Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) by displaying their quilts and volunteering at the annual quilt show each spring, and by attending the spring and fall state-level meetings. As an AQG Chapter, CCU has access to nationally renowned quilt teachers as well as to the AQG traveling teachers.

In addition to annual dues from our members, CCU hosts several fundraisers to support the rent for our meeting location and other expenses. Fundraisers, where the public is invited, have included house hops, quilt shows and auctions. If you think you may be interested in joining CCU, or just want to see what we are all about, we’d love to have you visit us as a guest, feel free to attend any of our meetings and just sign in as a guest at the membership table (located right inside the main entrance of the meeting room). If after 3 visits you decide you’d like to join, our Membership chairperson will be happy to assist you. We encourage you to join us and get involved. Take a class, join us on a retreat, help out one of our Chairpersons or offer to teach a class. Also, let us hear your ideas, and any areas we can help.
