Foothills Quilters
Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church
Peoria, Arizona
Foothills Quilters is a gathering of people with a common interest dedicated to celebrating the
art and craft of quilt making with its members and their communities. The Foothills Quilters
became a charter member of the Arizona Quilters Guild in 2006, with only 18 members. Today,
our chapter hosts about 40 very productive members, as evidenced by our monthly Show & Tell.
Foothills Quilters promotes its community service through its charitable donations of quilts,
totes, and pillow cases to the New Life Center, a refuge for battered women. We also donate
such items to our sponsor, Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church, which supports the Justa
Center, a center for homeless senior citizens, and Habitat for Humanity as well as comfort quilts
for the congregation. We're also active in the Daisy Mountain Quilts of Valor project, and join
other AQG chapters fulfilling their charitable endeavors such as Sundown Quilters and its
Arizona Helping Hands charity.
Foothills Quilters enjoy a variety of events and continued sharing of knowledge and talents. Our
members are of all skill levels! Our meetings often highlight a member’s expertise, giving skill-
building instructions such as color choices, piecing techniques, cutting short cuts, and block
resizing. Some special events have included Spring Pot Luck, Trunk Show & Lectures, Christmas
in July, and our annual Christmas Party.
Foothills Quilters strives to keep our membership dues affordable for everyone at $15 per year.
In addition, we ask for an annual donation to the church to cover costs for our meeting facility.
Foothills Quilters philosophy promotes participation from all of its members. In addition to its
elected board members, there are several committees on which members can serve: Programs,
Charity, Hospitality, and ad hoc committees such as managing chapter retreats, the pot luck, the
Christmas party, and more. The most popular committee has proven to be Hospitality, which
provides monthly door and birthday prizes, and, most importantly, monthly meeting hostesses.
These hostesses furnish a buffet of treats and snacks to enjoy throughout the meeting.
Come make new friends to share your enthusiasm for quilting! Visit on the second Wednesday
of the month at 9:00 a.m. for a meet and greet before our 9:30 a.m. Business Meeting. We also
meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month for our Sew Day at 9:00 a.m. If there is a fifith
Wednesday, we meet to sew for Charity at 9:00 a.m. If you'd like more information, please email
