    English Paper Piecing
    (Beginner with Hexagons)

    with Nina Clotfelter

    Thursday,  July  29
    9:00 am  - 12:00 pm

English paper (EPP) is fun, creative, imaginative, and oh so addicting!  EPP can be a lot of different things...simple, complex, simple fabrics, fussy cut designs, small project, large bed quilt, small pieces, large pieces...absolutely anything you want it to be!
Traditionaly, EPP is a hand sewing activity.  This is a project that can travel with you to keep hands busy while in a car, on a plane, in the airport, in a hotel, on a train!  It's small, portable, packable, and fun!
With purchase of kit from Nina's site  you will learn:

    • How to hand sew a Hexagon flower.  There are tips and tricks you learn along the way to make things simpler for you.
    • We talk about fussy cutting...OH MY, the fun in fussy cutting!!!  This is where it gets REALLY fun!!!  You will look at fabrics very differently once you start fussy cutting for EPP!
    • Other project possibilities.
    • EPP can also be acheived on a sewing machine!  (This makes it less portable.). Nina will show you how to do this on your sewing machine.
EPP has brought Nina much joy and allowed her to be creative in fabrics and designs.  She hopes to share this same joy with you !

    Color, Contrast & Cohesion
    with Diane Harris, Scrap Bandit

    1 Day Workshop

The three C’s—Color, Contrast and Cohesion—can make or break your quilt! Learn to control them with practical exercises as you begin a simply pieced scrap quilt. Learn why color is the least important of the three C’s. Discover ways to unify diverse fabrics and wrap your mind around the way value and contrast work together. Get comfortable with making decisions as you go, because that’s what a scrap quilt requires. Once you begin to work in this way, you might not want to go back! Choose from numerous easily pieced designs so you’ll love what you’re making. Patterns are included so there's nothing extra to purchase. Get ready to be inspired!

     Quilt Background with Peekaboo Flower
    by Jennifer Rapacki

Create a unique textured background for a small wall quilt that looks pieced but isn’t.  The technique is weaving 1-inch wide raw edge strips of fabric on the diagonal. No piecing required, thus no Y seams.

The applique is raw edge and a bit of wool batting is used for the trapunto effect in the flower, stem and leaf.

    My Journey into Quilting
    by Joyce Hughes

A complimentary event as part of your 2021-2022 membership!

    Thursday, November 11, 2021

    10:00 am - 11:00 am

Come join us for a  very open and inspiring talk about Joyce's journey into quilting and how it led into Art Quilts with Thread Painting.  She'll finish with ideas on how to use panels as Art Quilts.

Join the many people who leave excited to try something new with their quilting. Joyce’s  primary subject matter will be work with fabric panels. She'll show many “Before and after” Art Quilts.  Many panels are looked at and passed over. Joyce gives ideas about the often asked question: “What do you do with this?”, it’s so big, the colors are dull, etc., etc.  With a little embellishing and/or thread painting on the fabric, it soon becomes a piece of art.

Learn about panel preparation for a project, the freedom of using thread painting and how layering thread lets you achieve different effects on the quilts. Then, add embellishments of ribbon, markers, paint, crystals, etc., Your panel will be unique and one of a kind
