    Every Last Crumb,

    an Adventure in Scrap Quilting

    Zoom lecture by

    Brita Nelson

    Tuesday, October 17, 2023

    6:30 pm - 7:30 pm (Arizona Time)

This is a fun, informative and inspirational trek to find the best way to handle your mountain of left-over fabric. Brita had over 30 years worth of accumulated scraps which threatened to take over her sewing room and consume her! She had to do something. Some of you may have this same problem. Come and hear how she  managed to save herself and actually make some room in her fabric closet. She will demonstrate some great ways to use that secret treasure hiding in your house. Brita will also discuss basic color and contrast principles to make your own scrap beauties really shine in your creations

    Learn more about Brita:

Brita is an award-winning quilt artist and teacher with over 30 years  experience. In her previous life she was a chemical engineer and has brought that passion for knowledge and improvement into her quilting endeavors. Quilters, it’s time to gather again– just for the fun of it!  AQG has planned a day filled with many of the things we like to do:  listening to 2 great lectures , shopping the vendors, trying our luck on wonderful raffle baskets . Come and join us.

The following is the planned event:

    SPEAKERS:

    Sarah Thomas:

Officially she is a licensed (and Retired?) commercail pilot.  She  graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Aviation Technology, where she then went on as the chief pilot of an engineering firm in the Midwest for a couple years. Married a military man,  was whisked away from my Indiana land of corn and soybeans to start the next chapter in her life. Now three moves into our marriage, which means I had to figure out a career that worked for a lady-on-the-run! Thank goodness for my geeky affection for algebra & geometry (and calculus…yep, #MathNerd) and a keen eye for design & color.

She is very thankful that her Gramma and mom taught her to enjoy crafts and handwork from a young age. She learned to crochet around age 4;  played with beadwork and wire art from age 5 or 6; cross-stitch was second nature by the time she was in 2nd grade; and my school notebooks were always filled to the brim with doodles. It’s only fitting she discovered the quilting world – where art meets math & magic happens!     https://www.sariditty.com/

    Gina Perks

Owner of the Copper Needle in Payson. She is a lover of all things creative.  Her life is filled with: color, fun, ideas, texture, challenges, bling, threads, glitter, sugar and flour and sometimes chaos.

She travels all over this beautiful country and internationally sharing her techniques with other and appearing on a multitude of shows to promote that art of quilt making.  She has authored four books and designs patterns with many new projects in the works.

Sketchbook Quilting is Sarah's approachable, uninhibited, "no rules" style of free-motion quilting. In this fun hands-on class, you will become more comfortable with drawing your own style of free-motion designs to be able to quilt them onto your quilt tops. You’ll turn these designs into multiple groupings and combinations by building off the foundation pieces Sarah will teach. In doing so, you’ll be ready to create your own set of personal “go to” designs, practice fillers, and also develop the muscle memory of drawing each doodle. Sarah will also show you how to use a variety of rulers and stencils to help create basic shape and line guides for the doodling. This class will teach and encourage you to quilt without rules, thus making each finished quilt unique to your personal style and abilities. Be sure to bring plenty of sketch paper, pencils, erasers, and even a few colored pens or markers. Have a favorite ruler or stencil? Bring it with you to learn how to incorporate it into Sketchbook Quilting!

Look up and follow Sarah online: sariditty.com, and follow her on IG @sariditty.

Sarah discovered the world of quilting by chance after becoming a military wife. Always on the move, she left her career as a corporate pilot and dove head first into creating keepsake quilts for her fellow military families. Always a fan of algebra & geometry and with a keen eye for color & design, she has expanded her talents to include pattern writing and surface pattern design with Moda Fabrics. Sarah is also a thread and floss collections designer and has her own line of quilting rulers, tailor's clappers, and sewing notions. Modern Mariner's Compass

    Strip Pieced

    Zoom lecture by

    Robin Long

    Wednesday, December 13, 2023

    7:00pm - 8:00pm (Arizona Time)

Join Robin to hear a bit about her quilting journey and how she came up with her rulers and strip piecing method to bring the mariners compass into the 21st century.

You will hear her talk about the three facets her method including her modern technique, modern projects (not your typical mariner's compass quilts!), and the  modern support she provides to help folks be successful.

You'll see dozens of beautiful quilts and be inspired to see where your compass will take you!

    Speaker

What started as a quest to make a Mariner’s Compass quilt for her submarine officer husband, Robin Long took an idea she had in 1992 and launched Robin Ruth Design in 2015. She has developed a line of revolutionary rulers, books, patterns, and technique for making STRIP PIECED mariner’s compass blocks and projects – that’s right, NO PAPER PIECING!
