Remember the fun of gathering doilies, colored paper, scissors, markers and glue to make Valentines? Experience the same joy of Valentine-making, this time with ingredients of fabric, batting and thread, using your sewing machine with a walking foot, dual feed, or even a regular sewing foot. You will learn a variety of ways to quilt a heart, and then use your hearts to make mug rugs that are perfect Valentines. Trimming the extra batting around the heart makes the heart three-dimensional, an extra-special touch known as trapunto.  The designs and techniques used in class are also applicable to larger quilts, so you should leave with some completed Valentines and with ideas that you can use for quilting your next quilt.

    What Makes a Quilter Tick

    Zoom lecture by

    Quilt Maven Dave

    (David Sirota)

    Thursday, February 2, 2023

    6:30pm - 8:00pm (Arizona Time)

    What Makes a Quilter Tick?

A Fun-Filled Look in the Mirror

Join me for a laugh-out-loud and interactive look at ourselves as quilters. We'll examine the little quirks, passions, idiosyncrasies and obsessions we all share.

We'll hold a mirror up to ourselves and to help us see what others see when they look at us.  So, bring your friends and family along and maybe “What Makes a Quilter Tick?” will help explain to you and to them why they look at us the way they do.

    STORM AT SEA

    In 2 or 3 colors

    The perfect quilt for beginners

    AND

    experienced Paper-Piecers alike

It's Paper Piecing for the 21st Century

Are you curious about paper piecing?  Do you and paper piecing already have a love/hate relationship?  Do you love the accuracy you achieve, but hate the process of getting there? Well, this class will change that to a LOVE, and kind of an addictive relationship.  We’ll be using the versatile, graphic, complex, quite simple Storm at Sea pattern to learn my “No More Tears” © method of paper piecing.  Although we won’t be finishing the entire project in class, you’ll have a good start, and the tools you’ll need to finish it at home, in half the time you’d expect from paper piecing.  Don’t believe me?  You’ll just have to come and see for yourself.

"After almost 20 years of teaching, I can say that my "No More Tears Method" © has been wildly successful. It's a joy to watch students' faces when they realize paper piecing can be easy, quick, and best of all ... fun. So, let's have fun with paper piecing!" - David Sirota

    Supply list:

    2023Feb_David_Sirota_Storm-at-sea.pdf

    Note:

You'll need to print out paper piecing patterns in advance. The PDF for printing the patterns will be sent shortly before class.  17lb Vellum paper is recommended

    NH Beauty

Are you curious about paper piecing?

Do you and paper piecing already have a love/hate relationship?

This class will make paper piecing a love/love relationship.

The New York Beauty has always been a very popular pattern. But why call it NY Beauty when I live in NH? So, we’re making the NH Beauty wall hanging. We’ll not only be using my “No More Tears”© method of paper piecing, but we’ll also tackle curved seams. They are easier than you might think.

We probably won't finish the entire project in class but you'll have all the tools you'll need to finish it at home.

The finished piece measures 24" x 24" without borders.

"After almost 20 years of teaching, I can say that my "No More Tears Method" © has been wildly successful. It's a joy to watch students' faces when they realize paper piecing can be easy, quick, and best of all ... fun. So, let's have fun with paper piecing!" - David Sirota
