SPEAKERS:
Jen Wagner is a quilt pattern designer and instructor. In the spring of 2022, she launched Snapdragon Quilting with a clear mission: to spark creativity and build confidence in quilters of all skill levels through thoughtfully designed patterns and engaging workshops. In 2026, Snapdragon Quilting began an exciting new chapter with the opening of its first creative studio and retail location. Jen created the space so quilters could experience her designs in person, shop the fabrics and tools she loves, and gather with a community of makers who share a passion for quilting. From hands-on workshops and Open Sew days to thoughtfully curated fabrics, kits, and quilting essentials, her goal is to offer an inspiring place where every quilter feels welcome, encouraged, and excited to create.
Lecture/Trunk Show: Innovative Quilt Making: Blending Modern and Traditional Techniques
This engaging lecture goes beyond a traditional trunk show with live demonstrations of the unique construction techniques behind my quilts. You’ll see exactly how I approach curved piecing, reverse appliqué, and other modern methods—demystified and broken down in a way that makes them feel approachable and achievable.
Blending storytelling with a trunk show of finished quilts, I’ll share how I combine traditional techniques with fresh, innovative approaches to create bold, dynamic designs.
You’ll leave inspired, with new ideas and practical techniques you can incorporate into your own quilting right away.

Karen G. Fisher has been quilting since 2002, when she created a baby quilt for her first granddaughter. For that first project, she selected beautiful fabrics and cut and stitched until the quilt was complete.
Drawing on both sewing and art backgrounds, Karen holds degrees in art and art education as well as a teaching certification in earth science. She considers her strongest skill to be her ability to visualize an idea and translate it into fabric. Every quilt begins in her imagination, and some remain there for quite a while before taking shape.
Over the years, Karen has continually explored new techniques so that, when inspiration strikes, she can determine how to bring each idea to life. She also loves commercial fabrics and has built an extensive collection from which to draw when a concept reaches the making stage.
Karen’s quilts have earned numerous awards at both the local and national levels. In 2012, the American Quilter’s Society published her book, Easy Grid Quilts. Her work has also appeared in several magazines, and two of her quilts toured with the HERStory exhibit, which premiered at the 2017 Houston International Quilt Festival. In 2024, a special exhibition of 21 of her quilts was presented at the Houston International Quilt Festival.
